Bologna, December 17, 2020 – MC A – Mario Cucinella Architects designs the new Iperceramica Headquarters
The international firm MC A – Mario Cucinella Architects has designed the new Headquarter for Iperceramica, the largest Italian retail chain for the sale of floors, wall tiles, parquet, sanitary ware, and bathroom furnishings. Iperceramica, along with its subsidiary RistrutturaSMART, is also the new reference point for turn-key renovation projects. MC A is actively committed to respecting the key points of the COP 21 Paris Agreement, and the new Iperceramica headquarters serves as an example. The building was realized using materials with a reduced environmental impact and incorporated dry-assembly and dismountable solutions. The "Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)" approach resulted in significant benefits in terms of reducing construction time and associated pollution. The new building, located in Fiorano Modenese (MO), spans two levels for a total of approximately 1,700sqm and was conceived as a simple, functional shell characterized by a strongly contemporary image. The structures were designed using prefabricated wooden elements, thereby ensuring the utilization of the latest construction technologies in terms of materials, sustainability, and prefabrication systems. The project placed considerable attention on internal environmental comfort, the resulting staff well-being, and the permeability of natural light. These aspects are enhanced by large transparent façades facing the exterior and views overlooking an internal courtyard enriched with trees and shrubs. A large covering sail, which becomes the defining element of the intervention, projects beyond the external line of the building with different overhangs based on orientation and solar analysis to modulate light and radiation on the transparent façades. «This journey began two years ago and has led to the creation of a contemporary architecture serving and for the people who work there,» says Architect Mario Cucinella. «In a period where it is necessary to rethink spaces with a focus on well-being, the new Iperceramica headquarters is an example of how Italian entrepreneurship is becoming aware of the importance that the construction of the workspace holds for determining the quality of life of its occupants. Furthermore, designing flexible buildings intended to be simply assembled and capable of ensuring comfort through natural resources allows for the reduction of CO2 emissions as required by the Paris Agreement.» «After years of strong growth, we needed a new headquarters,» says Corrado Neri, President of BayKer Italia S.p.a.. «We wanted a place where people would enjoy working: a bright place that facilitates communication among people and offers a high quality of life. We wanted a low-impact building that uses the most modern technologies. We also wanted a tangible sign of the importance we place on design and aesthetics. We are very satisfied from all these perspectives.»
